General
Rules & Guidelines
2008
All rules for
soccer from FIFA apply to the Barnabas
Athletic Association (BAA) except as outlined in this document.
General:
- The
soccer season
begins on Saturday September 12, 2009.
- The age groups are:
- Ages
4 - 5 6 Teams

Ages 6 - 8 6
Teams
-
Ages 9 - 11 6 Teams

Ages 12 - 15 4 Teams
- Only designated coaches
will run the team. Designated coaches will be present with their
teams at all times to ensure proper supervision and safety for their
assigned team.
- Practices are limited to
the playing fields. Practices are limited to one hour if another
team is waiting to practice. Use of the parking lot for practice
is strictly prohibited.
- All
players are to have EQUAL playing time. All players must
be substituted at least once a half, with the exception of goalies.
- No slide tackling is allowed. One
warning will be given and then the player will be ejected from that
game and the next game.
- No jewelry is
allowed.
- The
official's call/decision is FINAL. Do not
argue it and if you feel the need to question it, please do it after
the game and away from players, parents and other spectators.
Please try to remember that it is only a game.
- Please
ask parents to refrain from anything but POSITIVE re-enforcement.
If they have nothing positive to say then please ask them to keep it
to themselves. The game officials have been given the authority
to ask any player, coach, or spectator to leave the field area after
one warning. There will be no exceptions.
- All decisions
by the Soccer Commissioner (or his designee) regarding rules,
application of rules or any other matters pertaining to soccer are
final.
- If a commissioner (or
designee) is coaching a game, he/she may not make a ruling on that
game.
- All players must be
properly registered with BAA for that season to be eligible to
participate in any games or practices.
- Written authorization
MUST be obtained from a player’s parent(s) in order for that player
to participate in a higher division.
- The telephone number for
the snack stand is 685-9883.
- Championship games and
picnic are scheduled for Saturday October 24th.
- Rainout games are made
up as directed by the commissioner. Rain dates are scheduled on
the game schedule.
Conduct
& Discipline:
-
Fighting and use of
vulgar language from players, coaches and parents is strictly
prohibited. Violation by players or coaches will result in
immediate ejection from that game and violation by parents may result in
ejection from the playing field.
- During the “heat of
battle”, all players, coaches and parents are reminded to conduct
themselves in a civil manner and refrain from making disparaging
remarks about or to others.
Playoffs:
-
All
players must play at least half the game. Every player except
the goalie must be substituted at least once per half.

If
there is a tie at the end of regulation, a 5 minute sudden death
period will be played.

If
tied at the end of the overtime period, there will be a
shoot-out. The goalie for the shoot-out must be the same goalie
who finished the overtime period. Each team will use 5 shooters,
which must be a combination of 3 and 2 for gender ratio. The
team with the most goals after all 5 players from each team have taken
their shots will be the winner.

If
still tied after the shoot-out, there will be a 1 versus 1 sudden
death shoot-out. Players must alternate boy - girl until there
are either no remaining boys/girls to shoot. Then the remaining
gender will continue to shoot until ALL players have taken a
shot. No player will shoot a second time until all players on a
team have taken a shot.
The
Game:
- Games times are as per
the Official Schedule. Game times and/or dates may never be
rescheduled without the Soccer Commissioner’s approval.
- All players will wear
the prescribed uniform. Shin guards must be worn at all
times. During
inclement or cold weather, a jacket is permitting under
the uniform shirt. There will be no altering of the uniforms.
- The
official is in charge
of all matters relating to the game while on the field.
- At no time
will the Commissioner or his designee overrule or attempt to
overrule an official in matters of judgment. If there
is a disputed matter of a rule interpretation, the Commissioner
may consult with the official to determine the proper ruling,
however, the interpretation and application of the rule by the
official is final.
